Scotweb’s MD, Dr Nicholas J Fiddes, has written a free illustrated e-book, as a gift to help kilt lovers everywhere. In simple non-technical language it covers every aspect of buying a kilt, choosing your tartan, and accessorising an outfit for every occasion.
As a Governor of the Scottish Tartans Authority, and founder of the world’s first company to market kilts on the Internet (yes, Scotweb) no one is better qualified to offer such advice. Impartial and objective, this is a personal work and is not a Scotweb publication.
My Jacobite Pouch Sporran is differs from the photo illustration. Mine has 5 tassels, not the typical 3. The braided leather tassel hanger for the centre tassel is much longer (the tassel hangs well below the bottom of the sporran) and like the other 4 is knotted. The centre hanger is the draw string for the pouch and controls the flap. The tassel hanger must be longer to give sufficient release of the pouch's opening to permit the placing of items (wallet, coins, keys, and other bits and pieces) into the pouch.
Because the sporran is designed for a leather belt/strap, there is no provision for a chain strap. While the sporran is made with a sewing machine rather than with hand sewing or lacing, it is still truly designed and crafted in the Jacobite tradition.

Prepared from a good grade of Black Leather with good workmanship. The supplied strap/belt is a tad short for a size 42-44 inch waist, and is of a lesser grade of leather. I don't think the strap/belt will stand up to heavy daily wear. After a bit of wearing, I'll decide if the centre tassel closure is a wee bit too long. When the sporran/pouch is empty the centre tassel hangs well below the sporran/pouch.
