We divide the buying process into two main stages:

Our little group in here in Abilene, Texas has gone to playing the Dunbar Polypenco pipes for their good tone and weather resistance. The hot, dry environment does not accomodate the wooden pipes well, but these polypenco pipes have been the answer. They are rugged, weather resistant, and above all produce a good sound. There is very little tone difference between these and Dunbar's blackwood pipes. They are an excellent instrument and the best option for those that don't want to spend an arm and a leg on a good set of pipes.

I bought my P3s back in '99 and they have done well. I don't experience any issues with reeds falling out. They look like the day I bought them and sound is sweet. The bonus is that our local band uses Dunbar chanters, so I never had to buy an additional chanter.

I have this set. I am not impressed with polypenco pipes. The reeds do not stay in very well. I should've bought wooden pipes, but living in Texas I thought I would be better off with plastic. Very frustrating set.
